At the police station…

At Teesside Law, we understand that some of the most important decisions made in relation to a case are made at the police station. If we become involved at an early stage of an investigation, we are often able to affect the outcome.

You are entitled to have a solicitor present free of charge at any police interview and a friend or relative of someone detained at a police station may be able to instruct us on their behalf.

The Legal Aid Agency requires us to attend the police station within 45 minutes of being notified by the police that they are ready to interview you but in reality, we are usually available to attend within minutes.

Even if you feel that you have nothing to hide, it is always best to have a solicitor to advise you at the police station. Our firm operates a 24 hour call out service for police station advice and we offer high quality guidance and representation.

If you, or a family or friend find yourself in the distressing situation of being questioned by the police, then contact Teesside Law straight away and we will be on hand quickly to support you through this stressful time.

At court...

Teesside Law are able to represent you through the entire criminal proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court and Court of Appeal. We offer this service using our own experienced Higher Court Advocates or we can instruct any Barrister or King’s Counsel required.

Since 1994, Solicitors have been able to conduct the Crown Court work that used to be exclusively undertaken by Barristers. Several of our Solicitors have been qualified to the requisite standard for many years and have considerable experience and success in this regard, including in the most serious of cases like murders.

Solicitors wear less extravagant gowns than Barristers and can choose whether or not they want to wear a wig (whereas a Barrister must). They are however, able to conduct any case in exactly the same way as a Barrister.

Our Solicitor Advocates have the advantage of being able to see a case through from the very start, in the police station, to its conclusion in court. Supporting you all the way through the entire Criminal Justice System.

A Solicitor can conduct litigation whereas a Barrister may not. That means Solicitors can act as if they are you when preparing your defence and sign documents on your behalf as your attorney. Usually, a Barrister may only act on the instruction of a solicitor; (though some are now qualified to offer direct access).
